Criminal Background Check

Optometry schools may require criminal background checks and/or drug tests in order to verify that you are able to participate in experiential education rotations, to confirm your eligibility for optometry licensure, and to ensure patient safety. If you designate at least one optometry school that is participating in the OptomCAS-facilitated national background check service, you will be required to submit to a national background report at the point of initial, conditional acceptance. Individuals who are extended offers of admission to participating optometry schools will be contacted by Certiphi® Screening Inc. after the admission offer has been made to conduct a background check.

If you wish to see what might be sent regarding a conduct issue at UGA, go to Student Conduct. You may ask the Student Conduct office to give you a copy of what they have on file in your records.

In addition, you may be asked for a Dean’s Letter.
