Additional Requirements

Standardized Tests

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs require applicants to complete either the TEAS or HESI exams.  Most programs will have a minimum score required to apply, but typically scores over 75% are considered competitive.

Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs require applicants to complete the GRE.  Usually, a combined score of 300 with a 4.0 on writing is considered competitve.

The Pre-Professional Advising Office has a Resource Library from which you can check-out GRE and TEAS prep books as well as Study Rooms which can be reserved.

References

Some programs will require that you list individuals as references or even require letters of recommendation. It is advised that you list faculty, work supervisors, and nurses or other healthcare professionals with whom you have volunteered or shadowed as your evaluators.  Please not that family members cannot serve as references.

Clinical Experience

While most programs do not require a set number of hours, it is advised that you have some experience or exposure to clinical settings. Therefore, our office encourages students to seek out shadowing or volunteer opportunities at local hospitals and clinics to gain insight to the nursing profession.
